The Indian Premier League franchise Delhi Capitals is likely to be without its captain Shreyas Iyer for at least the first part of the upcoming 14th season of the Indian Premier League.
Iyer, 26, suffered a left shoulder injury during the recently first ODI between India and England in Pune. After taking no further part in the match, Iyer had a scan done on his shoulder, which revealed chaos that rulled out of the England ODI. This means that the Delhi Captains captain for IPL 2021 is now questionable. Shreyas led Delhi Capital to the finals in the previous edition of the league IPL 2020. It can take up to six weeks to recover from shoulder dislocation and should last longer if surgery is required. If now, Delhi Captains has to search for a new captain, it could upset the team squad and send the team back into a turbulent situation.
If Shreyas does not play for Delhi Captains (DC), it will be a problem for the team to choose a replacement skipper. Yes, there are many options – Rishabh Pant, Smith, Ravichandran Ashwin, Shikhar Dhawan, Ajinkya Rahane.
But all of them tried to show up as captains first and failed to succeed for a long time. Therefore, choosing a replacement can be a headache for the Delhi team.
